hello is this for 18 inches sub-speaker design?
Hello Fernie and welcome to the forum.

This design is suitable for a 18" driver, it is a kick bin and will cover frequencies from 50Hz to 250Hz.If you want to cover the sub frequencies you will have to consider a subwoofer design (e.g. Hog scoop).
Is the Speaker wired backwards in this design?? (Neg cable goes to Pos on Driver)
Yes it is. I've buil these, they go low enough for anything live.
anyone got this in a inch friendly design??
Every time i try to convert these cabs (all of them) over, i get some crazy stuff i cant find on the tape measure!

Same goes other way round. If we get plans in inches (BFM) just work in inches. Use the mm on the tape.
Got the wood cut yesterday for one, Will attempt to assemble today, and take pictures. If all goes well. ill cut the next one out this week.
This is my first build so it might be rough icon_eek.gif
Just curious if the MBH-46 be used as subs to 80-90Hz then a kick bin like th MPH-46 80-250Hz with 15" woofers? I like the ES18 but should really be a neo 18 for our backs sake man! icon_angel.gif
The ES 18's are light to what we used to carry around...
Mains were 2-12 EV's in a W Setup, 1-JBL 10 Mid, and 1 JBL 2445 Horn all in one cab, About 300 pounds each. (had 4) Then 4 scoops and 2 or 4 Bass Tech 7's
I Dont need sound like that anymore, i want small things.

Got one cab almost completly screwed together. it looks good
Pictures please?
not sure how to post pics here, any my woodworking skills are rather null, so you guys are gonna have a good laugh. (I took a big chunk out of the front on accident, but still fuctions properly.
Great cab, i will have a pair before the weekend.
by bitzo
porting this cab....a good idea or just a waste of wood?
The unternal braces are in optimal position.
Built it to the specs and it sounds great. Have thrown a variety of drivers in it as well, and they all seem to have great sound.
The internal bracing on the inside is a must, i was gonna skip it, but decided i needed it.
I wouldn't port it.
by bitzo
just have some play in akabak...p.audio sd18 loaded @2pi 2,83v
port measure 56.4x5 cm port lenght 28 cm, enjoy
esbphversion.jpg
UPDATE- So I tried to be lazy and not put all the bracing in. YOU SHOULD PUT ALL BRACING IN. Now i have to add it anyway, should have followed the plans....
This cab is great but too small in height. 750 high would be so much better for stacking.
Any thoughts on making it grow?

Is there a more sized version of the plan? I mean its damn hard to make out all the details there are.
The attachment component is %#!+-* .

Here is a full size version of the plan:

what is the frame size on the chamber cover
by tamuks
its the right thing l have got 2 P audio sd18 and it is a kick bin but cant get my mids to sustain the bass. help me !!!

Are there any plans for a 15" version of the Es18BPH
by saul
the HD15 is a BPH

i think you could pretty easily come up with something looking like the ES18, but with the HD15 dimensions and parameters.

infact i already did it last year, but would need to find it on me 'arddrive
by jerronimo
Want to start building these next week.
What driver would be the ''loudest'' PD186, RCF LF18G401(ferrite), fane XB?
by tamuks
wher do l put the handles guys lm afraid of air leaks
don;t be afraid. will u put carpet on the bin ? or will u paint it ?
if u will put carpet on it, don;t be afraid of air leaks because the carpet will eliminate this problem. If u will paint it, u can put a rubber band on the bottom part of the handle ( between handle and box ).
U can put the handles, one above in the closed chamber and one on the bottom , in the horn part.

prob the same guy that posted about the usb......... i feel sorry for people like this, i mean being dragged up with no manners...... icon_sick.gif

but true should guest be able to post.......... it only takes 30 seconds to open an account...
Edits by me.
Thanks lev, smiley20.gif is there any way that guest can not post, or at least have the post revieved so this doesn't happen.....
People saying XB in these.
For kick yes, as a full sub/bass cab I would suggest not, cone is not stong enough.
by jerronimo
I've loaded my ES18BPH with the RCF LF18G401 and it kicks like a mule when playing techno/hardstyle/trance.
But I find that I have to LP cross it very low at 120 hz for other styles of music like pop and rock to give a ''uncoloured'' sound.
Anything above and it starts to sound very coloured and undefined.

Any ideas?
by tamuks
thanks Kentech .but if lm to build 8 es18bph what type of midtop boxes would l need? coz l have 4 15"fane speakers l need 4 single midtop does any one have a midtop plan?
by tamuks
just came up with a mid top plan for the es18 it sounds great its 15 horn midtop
by bee
ok just going over the plans for this cab, and the angles dont add up, ive re drawn it in cad, and to scale on paper. the issue is with panel c....... the plans show it joining from the corner of section g..... but if you bring it in by 15mm from the corner all measurments are correct ishhh. see pic below.....

es18bhpcorrected.jpg

has any one else had or seen this issue........

by bringing it in 15mm it corrects the measurements where part c meets b and d, the angle between d and c is 90 degrees...... b to c is 35 degrees, the only angle that is out is c to g this becomes 37 degrees not 40 as plan............ the length of panel c changes as well.
by saul
yeah discovered this 2 years ago.

i think i just changed the angle on the end of the panel to suit. it was only 3 degrees or something like that.
by bee
lol..... if just change the end angle it effected all the angles, instead of being 2 90 sections it would be 2 degrees less between c,d,and e and 4 degrees between g and c....... i reworked it to this..... see pic below.......

es18bhpcorrected2.jpg

it makes the rear chamber ever-so slightly smaller....
icon_lol.gif You super accurate cabinet builders, have to call you Norm!

I built two and never noticed
by bee
lol.....

just been sent this plan, looks very nice. im gonna adjust the front braces.
Can anyone "guess-etimate" the response of this cab, if depth is reduced to 636mmm?

I expect shortening horn, and reducing chamber will reduce low end response, will it still reach downto usable 65hz?

More importantly, will upper response be extended?
by saul
if you draw a vertical line around 110mm from the front of the cab, yeah i guess lose mouth area horn length and chamber.

horn length is currently 75cm in theory - this is only 110hz @ 1/4 wave

so the rest is the chambers?

just wondering though, why?

Why reducing depth?

Cube shape kick.. Aesthetics.

But just realised MT121 is approx 668mm deep, so "my" ES18 would have to be at least this as well.
by saul
thing is with 3 or 4 next to each other, the whole lot actually gets deeper than 668mm

Yes for pure kick bin that can be done..
Sacrifice is a bit shorter horn which will take away bit of low extension but 65 Hz will still be in good efficiency range.

I have already made slight simple modification for Electrikal to make "face" of cabinet 636 x 636 mm which will make it more flexible for stacking in various combination's with HOG-s and other 636mm wide scoops.

now I see ..according to some inditions and informations from Sherlock Holmes you already know that smiley2.gif

.. Have to make some sims to see what upper response with trimmed depth from 750 to ~670 will do.. But that can give us just idea as final "character" and "honk/no honk" in delicate low vocal area is impossible to simulate.
In this situation (when you look for better high cutoff) additional Neilpoints modification (http://forum.speakerplans.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=27036&PID=470523&title=es18bph#470523) may be good idea to do.
by tamuks
does anyone have plans for 21 inch speakers on this cab
hiany one know how deep could be the speaker at maximum?
by bitzo
encreasing depth without any other mods means enlarging compression chamber and throat... so means encreasing low end or gain some db on low bandwith part and may be loose high end extension. Mr. Stipe cabs make always discuss about them, I like it. smiley20.gif
no bitzo!
i'd like to say how deep the speaker basket could be!
by bitzo
big brace distance from baffle in akabak sintax

sin(rad(40))*(paneljheight-(1/sin(rad(40))*woodthickness+7.7e-2+bigbraceheight+woodthickness))
