Cubo Home

If you could only have one sub, build Cubo Home. If you can have three subs, build two Cubo Home and one Cubo Infra.

Cubo Home is great for above average levels of sub bass, with just about any sub amplifier. Not just at home but in your car or about anywhere else. It's your day-to-day go-to sub, whether for music, gaming, movies or to entertain a small flock of friends or family.
It will work with a very wide range of 12" drivers, even those that weren't designed for sub bass performance. Designed for all 12” PA midbass or bass drivers, to atain an usable frequency response down to 30-ish Hz*. Tested with drivers such as the 18 Sound 12W700, 12ND930, 12NLW9300, the Precision Devices 12SB30 and the Eminence Delta 12LF. Other suitable drivers that come to mind are The Box 12-280/8-A, 12-280/8-W and the Dayton Audio PA310-8. Cubo Home is also suitable for 12” home audio and many car audio drivers. It will even work with 10" drivers, especially those geared towards high excursion capabilities. If you're unsure a driver is suited, e-mail me at This email address is being protected from spambots. * To maximize low frequency performance, loosely fill the rear chamber with fibers, such as Polyfill/ Fiberfill, without blocking the airflow to the driver and port.

Size: 40 x 40 x 40 cm (Imperial 16 x 16 x 16 inch)
Frequency: From 30 Hz up to 100 Hz
Enclosure Type: Reflex/ 6th Order Series Bandpass

Construction: Cut from half a sheet of 15 mm MDF (122 cm x 122 cm), no angled cuts.

Development: Many moons ago, Cubo Stealth (then known as the MiniBass) was designed, to give Cubo-Sub-like performance at home and in the car. Cubo Home and Cubo Car are its offspring, that have undergone further optimisation.

The plans for Cubo Home are released for two reason's:

  1. The realisation that If you could only have one sub, you should build Cubo Home. And if
you can have three subs, you should build two Cubo Home and one Cubo Infra. Till
recently this was difficult to achieve, because the plans for Cubo Home weren't freely
    available.
  2. To celebrate the 1K subscriber count for the Black & Blue Bass Boosted channel
    ( https://www.youtube.com/@custombassboosts ). Here you'll find a wide range of bass
boosted songs that all sound great with Cubo Home and a few that will sound amazing
    with Cubo Infra.

For future reference: Cubo Home, Cubo Stealth and Cubo Car performance are interchangeable in all
of the above :) The measurements and the enclosure itself have been lost to time.

Cubo Infra (Cubo HT)

Thumbnail BW

Size: 53.6 x 53.6 x 53.6 cm

Frequency: From 17 Hz up to 80 Hz

Enclosure Type: Hybrid

Recommended Driver: Designed around the Lab-12, other drivers that will work: Dayton Audio SD315A-88, Dayton Audio DCS305-4, SB Acoustics SB34SWPL76-4, Infinity 1260W (discontinued).

Suitable drivers typically have an EBP between 50 - 100. Fs as low as possible, preferably below 25 Hz, Qts (0.20 - 0.5), Vas (50- 150 L) / (1.7 – 5.3 ft^3). If you're uncertain a driver is suited, PM or email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Cubo Infra: Also known as Cubo HT is a true subwoofer for Home Theater and low bass songs (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCryRu2G55Ir8WtQhg2jsaLQ). It extends into the realm of infrasound, frequencies below 20 Hz that are felt rather than heard, nothing too much just enough to justify its name. Experience (truly) scary low sound effects in movies or voice modulating bass lines in songs. Lots of amplifier headroom is advised but only a few hundred Watts is needed to get you started.

Development: Cubo Infra is the 3th prototype in a line of hybrids aiming at low frequency reproduction down into the infra region. Made from 1 and a ¼ sheet of 18 mm MDF, it features a double baffle and an inner port wall that effectively acts as bracing.

An Imperial version is in the making, plans available on request.

Front or down-firing: Its design allows it to be placed with the driver aimed towards its audience or, with rubber feet of 2 cm (4/5”) height, in a down-firing position. This maximizes the front chamber volume, creating an acoustical low pass filter that makes it sound like it drops even lower, it can also mask mechanical driver noises.

The measurements below show the response in a corner*, in down-firing position, with a 24 dB/ octave Linkwitz-Riley low pass at 60 Hz or 80 Hz without a high pass. Based on hearing alone the response drops off quickly below 17 Hz.

* One thick stone wall, one thin stone wall and a wooden floor

Yes, definitely

I would give them about 250 - 500 W continously each, extra headroom doesn't hurt, with a low order high pass at 15 - 20 Hz and a low pass at 60 - 80 Hz. One is awesome, two is awesome + 5 dB.

hello, can I install the ciare 12SW in the cubo infra HT?
Is it worth making 2 boxes for ciare 12?

Drivers with a very low Vas, like the SQL-12, will have low efficiency by nature, meaning they need more power to sound as loud, as for example a Lab12 driver. However, it will definitely work and even be usable down to about 14 Hz, instead of 17 Hz, it will take around 500 W to reach Xmax at that point. Then again just 250 W will already have quite insane low frequency SPL.

Is this enclosure picky when it comes to drivers?

Is the Stereo Integrity SQL 12 a good choice?

Measurements inside a room are very sensitive to sub placement, listening position and the dimensions of the room. Placement against a solid wall or in a corner often gives the best low frequency reproduction. The measurements below show the response in a corner *, in down-firing position, with a 24 dB/ octave Linkwitz-Riley low pass at 60 Hz or 80 Hz without a high pass. Based on hearing alone the response drops off quickly below 17 Hz.
