Tony.A.S.S. wrote: There must have been something about Ealing. Jim Marshall started there with his shop.

My Dad was a lorry driver amongst other things when I was a yut dem I used to sit with him on his long journeys delivering off cut rags to all the engineering firms

we used to drop off at Marshall

and a speaker manufacturer, can't remember who it was , think it was Celestion

Thats what gave me the bug I rekon, seeing these long haired rockers carpeting Marshall cabs sooooo fast, and hearing the cabs being tested out the back
didn't the fella from the Quo own Marshall Tony?

Anyone got any ply?

ILP electronics....the early stuff..mid 70`s....they made power amp modules 60w,120w,and 240watt versions...the electronics were potted in hard resin to the heatsink...half way though the night, bang, black smoke would start coming from the resin...we managed to kill 4 of them, total rubbish.
Roger Squire`s own brand Squires speakers were also rather nasty....nasty as in "crap".

Of a more hi-fi note....
Sanyo.
Audiotronic. (lasky`s own brand)
Prinztronic. (dixons)
Metrosound.
Alba.
Crown. (the taiwanese company,not USA)

All rubbish.

Be seeing you.

TK mentioned here was a guy called Dave woods, operating here in Southend. He later gave up and become a van driver.
DJ electronics were also here in Southend.
Looking back, this gear was always on the cheapish side of things because anyone who produced early disco stuff sold into a certain market. A lot of the gear started life in the back of the shops. Must not forget Marshall started life in the back of the Ealing shop.

Ian, a lot of older people will remember ILP I think from Canterbury. They must have made a lot of people dream about putting there own amps together

Mykey, I never heard that connection before. Jim Marshall has always been in the driving seat followed by his son Terry. Ken Bran was the designer.
A long while ago, Terry Marshall along with this amazing guitar player I knew called Dave Roberts started a company making boxes called Thor. It didn't last long.

Well, so it seems there have always been budget brands. I wonder if, given todays media, Internet, Ebay, et all, if any would have been different from ClassD?
Seems there will always be a market.

Markie, BK are still going strong here in Southend They do good woodwork an are a contender for some of my projects. They have made modules for a lot of HI FI sub bass cabs including REL I have used these modules in my sub bass cabs and they're great.
